New software by european based Alpiron cuts energy consumption per server by up to 50%, simply by automatically turning off servers when they are no longer needed.
Aalborg, Denmark, December 1, 2007
Danish Alpiron today announced the availability of its main product Alpiron Suite which aims to dramatically reduce the energy consumption for companies providing Server Based Computing infrastructure like Citrix Presentation Server or Terminal Services, while also providing an excellent tool for servermonitoring and alarms.
According to Ron Langballe of Alpiron, most application service providers do not turn their servers off at night or on weekends because they require them to be online for various reasons, these include: a few users online, replication, installation of updates and so on. These are all problems which the new software addresses in a simple and straightforward manner. Alpiron Suite makes sure that servers are on when the system administrators or users need them, and makes sure they are off when no-one needs them.
Additionally, application service providers have long lacked a simple monitoring tool that reports the most important health and performance parameters about servers in an accessible way. Using Alpiron Suite, adminstrators can quickly evaluate the status of hundreds of servers. At the same time each server can be individually controlled by commanding it to start up, shutdown, restart or just be in standby state.
