Flexible Policies

Flexible Policies

Alpiron Suite’s Policies are set of rules established by IT Administrators which govern the actions on Alpiron-controlled servers. Policies are valid across physical networks or logical organizations established by the IT administrator and the same policy can be assigned to more then one group of servers.

Each group of servers may be assigned one policy per weekday; however, each one of these policies may be assigned any number (up to one for each minute of the day) of “Policy Lines” with associated actions assigned to them.

Each policy line is active starting with its timestamp and concludes when the next policy line becomes active or at the end of the day whichever comes first.

Policy Settings

  • Policy name and comment
  • Policy line activation time (hh:mm)
  • Policy line actions - sets of rules governing the control of the group.
    • Start All servers in the group
    • Shutdown All servers in the group
    • Maintain Free Capacity between minimum and maximum limits
    • Shutdown load limit
    • Ignore idle session with idle session time definition

Policy Line Actions

Start All: Starts all servers in the group.

Shutdown All: Shuts down all servers in the group.

Maintain Free Capacity: When available capacity drops under the “Minimum Free Capacity” limit, Alpiron Suite will start up the number of servers required to meet the minimum free capacity required. When available capacity exceeds the “Maximum Free Capacity” limit, Alpiron Suite will shutdown the number of servers required to meet the free capacity required.

Shutdown Load Limit: By creating a policy with the ‘Only shutdown if load is under’ a limit defined by the administrator, Alpiron Suite takes into consideration the number of active sessions before making the decision to shut down a server.

Ignore Idle Session: By creating a policy with the ‘Ignore sessions if idle more than’ a specified limit defined by the administrator, Alpiron Suite will safely shut down a controlled server with sessions idle for more then predefined number of minutes.
