Components Overview
Alpiron Suite is made of four software components:
- Alpiron Controller
- Alpiron Failsafe Controller*
- Alpiron Agent
- Alpiron Console
*optional, but highly recommended
Alpiron Controller
The Alpiron Controller is the main monitoring and control component of Alpiron Suite. Alpiron Controller collects real-time metrics from servers/workstations or other devices controlled by the Alpiron Suite. The Alpiron Controller then evaluates policies, makes decisions and activates the required processes.
As a long-running executable application, Alpiron Controller automatically loads when the device on which it is installed boots - no direct administrator intervention is required. Alpiron Controller is a non-intrusive service which does not interfere with other users or programs operating on the same device.
Alpiron Suite Fail-Safe Controller
Redundancy in the Alpiron Suite system is achieved through the establishment of a Failsafe Controller to back up the primary Alpiron Controller. In the event of an Alpiron Controller failure the Alpiron Failsafe Controller will wake up all controlled devices and will notify the administrator by email and SMS.
To establish an Alpiron Failsafe environment, two Alpiron server instances must be installed on two separate server devices. The first instance will be configured on the Alpiron Controller while the other will be configured as Secondary instance on the Alpiron Failsafe Controller; at the same time the Alpiron Failsafe Controller will be told which server is the Alpiron Controller. During normal operations, the Alpiron Failsafe Controller will monitor the Alpiron Controller, making sure it is well and running. In the event of failure, the Alpiron Failsafe Controller will take over as Primary and start controlling and executing policies.
Alpiron Agent
Alpiron Agent is a small (file size: 180 kb) program that must be installed on each device to be controlled by Alpiron Suite. It runs as a Windows Service (default option) and has no user interface. The Alpiron Agent sends status and data periodically to the Alpiron Controller; it executes all customer-created policies automatically and performs all monitoring and management functions, including alerts and escalations.
Alpiron Console
Alpiron Console communicates directly with the Alpiron Agent process and is the administrative front end to the system. The IT Administrator uses the Alpiron Console to create Groups, Policies, set alarm specifications and visually monitor the entire IT installation.
